Thanks for all your help!

ON the beach is very different from ocean view or beachfront. Try the Pacific Beach hotel for a pretty good deal. I don’t think their prices are bad at all considering they’re across the street from the beach and there is nothing (e.g., another hotel) in front of the view of Waikiki beach. There is also the Queen Kapiolani Hotel — even cheaper than the Pacific Beach but not quite as nice and about a block from the beach. The Outrigger hotel chain has several properties right on or across the street from the beach but they’re also a tad pricey. Ohana hotels are owned by Outrigger and they’re a little more budget-conscious, but still decent, and most are only a block or two from the beach. Have fun!

Try ResortQuest on Waikiki Beach – it is right across the street from the beach – nice pool, nice bar/restaurant – nice free breakfast (they giv eyou souvernir insulated bags so you can take your breakfast and have it on the beach) – clean, nice staff, accomodating, beautiful view, conveniently located and found them to be reasonable.

I know I sent you an email but I have to agree about the ResortQuest Waikiki Beach. My husband and I stayed there in an ocean front room and it was an unbelievable view (and nothing beats waking up early and watching the sun rise over the beach on your hotel balcony). I believe we payed $175 a night but that would change with the season. They do offer a free breakfast buffet which isn’t terrific, but is free. Their pool is fairly nice and they have the Tiki Bar which doubles as a restuarant with pretty good food and view of the beach. On Friday nights and the weekend they have live bands which play until 1 am. I’m not so sure if they’ve changed that because of the complaints, but my husband and I couldn’t sleep and requested a room on a higher level as we were directly above the bar. They moved us up to the 17th (?) floor and we didn’t have any more problems (so request a room on a higher level if you want an ocean view room). The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and changed our room without any issues. The hotel also has a 24 hour shoppette and a Wolfgang Puck Express which has some pretty delicious food. It’s nifty when you want a quick meal to eat in your room or between sunbathing and swimming. It’s located right across Waikiki Beach and around the corner from Wolfgangs is a Starbucks, Cold Stone, and a few other shops. I wouldn’t recommend the Diamondhead rooms. The view isn’t that great. From the ocean view room you can also watch the torch lighting ceremony without ever leaving the room. There are plenty of stores and restaurants down the road and you can eat and visit any hotel you want. The International Marketplace is a great place to visit. There’s a cafe deep inside that has some pretty amazing smoothies and drinks.
There’s really so much to do it’s hard to list them all. Like I said, visit the activity desk in your hotel (the ResortQuest has a terrific one) and they’ll help you find better deals and more activities.
