what are good places to see/do stuff in Maui, Kona, or Hawaii? and things like FAMILY stuff . we don’t want to
go on hikes, what are good beaches? and which beaches
have lots and lots and shells?

You might want to investigate the guide books this place puts out. I recommend them to all that ask which guidebook is the best. Well written guidebooks that cover Oahu or Maui or Hawaii (Big Island). Very candid, honest and well liked by those who used them.

You can find them at Barnes and Noble and similar chains. Worth the $$$

A reminder, Chris said that the is GOING TO GET LEI’D the Hawaiian Necklace, not the other one

Hoping to leave July 19th 2010. Need some ideas as to what to do, agencies to go through, places to stay/see, anything.

You will need to choose which islands you want to visit. If you stay at least a week or more, you can choose 2 islands, if you stay 2 weeks you can choose up to four.

I am limited to 10 links in any response, but will put in sufficient info to find the remaining links I couldn’t include…

No place is easier to visit on your own without using a tourist agency than Hawaii, they rely on tourism and it is sooo easy to get around and find things to spend your precious money on, and smile doing it! Make sure to rent a car, totally worth having the ability to drive to that secluded tropical beach or getaway. However, particularly Hawaiian Airlines has good air/hotel/car packages that will save you $200-$300 as a bundled ala carte "tour", but you won’t be able to pick your own hotels. If you are in Central or East coast, other airlines have similar packages.
Google search (Hawaiianairlines tour packages)

If you want to experience the best of fusion island food (Asian/Island/American at Alan Wong’s or Roy’s) and want a tropical urban experience with international nightlife, then Honolulu with its Waikiki Beach is the only spot in the islands to experience this, but still with isolated beaches on the rest of the island. They also have most of the historic and tourist sites (Iolani Palace..the only true royal palace in the USA, Pearl Harbor, etc.) For romance, check out the following:
The most romantic restaurant: http://www.kaimana.com/dining.htm
The most historic romantic resort: http://www.royal-hawaiian.com/
Secluded B&B right on the sand of North Shore Sunset Beach: http://www.santasbythesea.com/Home_Page.html
The most exotic jungle hike (wear repellent, bring Tevas!): Manoa Falls, google search (Manoa Falls hiking)
The best snorkeling (go early to see the turtles and moray eels!): Hanauma Bay, Google search (Hanauma Bay)
The best buy: Buying "her" a gorgeous orchid crown or orchid lei ($7) to wear in the evenings at the source on Mauna Kea Street, near central Honolulu chinatown: http://www.cindysleishoppe.com/

For that serene tropical beach resort on an impeccable white sandy beach with coconut trees, then Maui is for you and others will undoubtedly recommend the Grand Wailea on Wailea Beach (or the Four Seasons if you can afford it…). However, for an isolated tropical getaway on the "jungle" side of Maui, check out the resorts in Hana. Getting there takes a few hours on a winding road hugging the sea cliff through a rain forest, with waterfalls at every turn in some places, one-lane bridges and bamboo forests. There are two resorts, one is world-famous (and $$$$$) and the other is a condo-hotel. Warning: all the jungle scenery comes at a cost of a lot of rain…

Test each other’s bravery on a zipline tour: http://www.zipline.com/
Take a boat tour out to the sunken caldera of Molokini: link is www.molokini.com

The other islands are less-visited, but my favorite outer island is the Big Island. It is the most exotic and adventurous where you can visit actual orange lava flowing into the sea, or dive at night with manta rays:

..and don’t forget to eat a slice of Macadamia Nut Pie (like pecan pie but with macadamia nuts oh-my-god)
Google search (Mac Pie)

And for the most beautiful scenery right out of the South Pacific (which was filmed on this beach, as was portions of Jurassic Park) you can’t beat Hawaii and Hanalei. They just completed a huge renovation to the resort overlooking Hanalei Bay, really the most beautiful scenery of all Hawaii!!

I don’t get it honestly I mean EVERYONE goes to Hawaii and I just don’t see why it’s not even that great and yes I do know because I live here. I understand most people don’t have loads of money for these kinds of things but Hawaii isn’t really a cheap choice by any means either. I just wish MORE people would opt for a different location. I’m sure I will get grief for this one but I’m sure SOME of you can see what I mean???

Thats so true!! But…I have to admit, I have never been to Hawaii and my husband and I have no desire to go. We have talked about it, and we both think its probably over-rated.
Our image is that there are a lot of towering hotels, overcrowded beaches and cheesy tourist spots. Also I know a lot of tourists go there to shop because US prices are a bargain. Yes just what I want to do at the beach– shop! No.
We are going to Fiji for our summer vacation this year.

My Braddah EB and I headed to da North Shore of Oahu to ck out da early November North Shore swells…They had been going off with small 6-8 foot faces…Not a bad way to start the Winter season!!!!
PIPE is famous for its big barrals ranging 30 to 40 feet during best conditions in the middle of winter. NO Vistors to the islands should enter the water on the North Shore during the winter months…PERIOD! Sit back, relax and watch the Surfers ride these killer breaks!

The press was never allowed to approach him when he was there and he was shown just kind of walking the streets in sandals??? Something definitely wasn’t right there. What was he REALLY doing in Hawaii? Did it have something to do with his not really being born there? He was actually born in Kenya and is not eligible to be a US President.

Maybe his grandmother was very ill and the family wanted a little privacy?

If I were seeing a close relative on his/her deathbed, I wouldn’t want the press approaching me either.

“the most incredible and exciting trips of our lives”

Lyrics:

Feeling the moment slip away
Losing direction you’re losing faith
You’re wishing for someone
Feeling it all begin to slide
Am I just like you
All the things you do – can’t help myself

How do you feel when there’s no sun
And how will you be when rain clouds come and pull you down again
How will you feel when there’s no one
Am I just like you

Turning to face what you’ve become
Bury the ashes of someone
Broken by the strain
Trying to fill that space inside
Am I just like you
All the things you do – can’t help myself

How do you feel when there’s no sun
And how will you be when rain clouds come and pull you down again
How will you feel when there’s no one
Am I just like you
All the things you do

Don’t ever feel
That you’re alone
I’ll never let you down
I’ll never leave you dry
Don’t fall apart
Don’t let it go
Carry the notion
Carry the notion back to me

Feeling the moment slip away
Feeling the moment slip away

Cause I’m just like you

How do you feel when there’s no sun
And how will you be when rain clouds come and pull you down again
How will you feel when there’s no one

Am I just like you?

It will take me a little bit to save up but I’m willing to do it. I don’t know anything about the islands and would like something that would help me to see a couple different ones and enjoy all the things Hawaii has to offer. Any advice? Thanks!

i’ve been to hawaii before and its VERY beautiful. It rains a bit but when its sunny out you should really go to the beach or go shopping =p just be careful, i got burned pretty badly on the back cuz i forgot to put lotion on my back when i went to the beach lol

I was on the big island of hawaii. We went to this black sand beach that we had to hike down to get to. There was a shallow river dividing 2 halves of the beach. There was this hawaiian family there, and the one whom i thought was the father was overweight. Anyways, he got in the river, about 2 ft deep and laid down on his stomach on the river floor, completely immersing himself under the river. He did this several times. Is this some kind of hawaiian ritual or was the dude just weird?

could of been very hot? some of those rivers or fresh waters are super cold.

If this big dude was just chillin, thats how he does it hawaiian style!

this is just a video of most of her songs? yeahhhh, feel free to comment.

the songs i know in this order are,
1. Jump To The Rhythm
2. One Love
3. Permission To Fly
4. Boyfriend
5. The Way You Do The Things You Do
6. I Wanna Go Back
7. My Shoes

i’m not sure of what the last one’s called.
