Many people in the bay area claim to have ties to Hawaii but be cautious; things may not be as they seem. Open any bay area yellow pages and look for kumu hula. There is no concept of ohana here, be careful and e komo mai.
There are many places in the world that has great surf. Depending on what you surf and what type of waves you like surfing then this will depend on what you think is perfect surf.

So if you thought that the only place to get great surf is Tahiti and Hawaii then you need to open your eyes and look further afield.

Waikiki is perfect in November to learn how to surf. You don’t need the monster waves of the North Shore to have fun. There are breaks to enjoy from Waikiki all the way around Diamond Head.
