We are going to Oahu and Maui for 10 days. We will bring our credit cards and such but how much cash would you suggest? We want to do snorkeling (I assume they only take cash), market shopping and maybe some other activities along the way. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Almost all of the dive shops take credit cards. Use the cards whenever possible and save the cash to pay the bill when you get back. It’s good for consumer protection and insurance. Take $500 in cash, there are ATM’s. Bring a good mixture of denominations for tipping, small purchases, etc. Most hotels have safes so that you can leave most of the cash in the room and only bring what you may want for the day.
I will go to Hawaii during the Labor Day Weekend with my wife (4days & 3nights). We’ll stay in Waikiki. We want to go to the best beach! (cleanest water and whitest sand). We would also want to try snorkeling or dolphin watching. Or if there is scuba diving for 1st timers. And of course we want to attend Luau but we don’t know where. Please help us with your info. Thanks!

The Best way to get around is Public Transportation…Traffic on Oahu is outrageous…so I would only rent a car for a day or two to get to the other side of the Island..North Shore
My boyfriend and I plan to go to Hawaii during mid-October for a 4-days trip. I’ve done a lot of researches yet I can’t decide which island I should go to. We are looking for a somewhat romantic trip that doesn’t include much sightseeing. We prefer being active at outdoor activities such as diving, snorkeling, laying/swimming near the beach, sailing… etc. So far I’ve come down to Big Island, Maui, and Oahu. Can you please give me some advice on which island I should pick and recommend me some activies that I definitely cannot miss? Also, if possible, let me know which hotel comes with a beach that we can actually swim. I gotta have this trip plan out as soon as possible, please help~~!!
That’s a huge question, and would require a huge answer. And depends on a lot of things like your interests and budget.
That said, here’s what our family and friends do before they come to visit. We built a web page with the best links and things to do in Hawaii, rated and reviewed. That way they could look BEFORE they got here and see what they want to do. Our 4-star rated items may be a good place to start for those "don’t miss" things.
Our family’s going to Kauai next…that island’s famous for not having much nightlife and the like, but is gorgeous and romantic. Of course there’s beach access and water activities like you mentioned. If you go to Maui, our web page has a link to a page that shows aerial pictures of the island’s resorts, so you can see them before you go. If you go to Oahu, and money’s no problem…since you want to get off the beaten path…consider Ko Olina resort. Four wonderful lagoons, but close enough to Honolulu that you can get there and back for dinner and other activities. Also look at Turtle Bay on the North Shore. Definitely remote, and while it does have nice beaches of it’s own, it’s also close to the other North Shore beaches.
The page is at http://home.hawaii.rr.com/gonebananas. Could go into a longer answer here, but with all the work we put into that page, well, you’ll see…it will answer your questions.

I’m interested in something a little closer to home than Hawaii. Clear waters, beautiful fish, and family friendly place would be great to hear about it. Appreciate any links you provide. Thanks to all.
The North fork of the middle fork of the American river in Placer county California. I wasn’t looking for fish though. I found a one ounce, three and a half pennyweight gold nugget up there.
Is there any beach in Florida or in the Keys at which one can snorkel in the shore shallows like in the carribean? i am NOT looking for a charter or boat tour
Couple of places down in the FL Keys(smaller islands) you can do that. Also Sanibel island.

I want to snorkel at Hanuama Bay, and I see a tour with Seabird Tours. They offer snorkel gear. I really want to buy and take my own gear with me to save money in the long run. How does all of this work with the cost of tours, cuz I notice a lot of them have a set rate, including snorkel, fins, etc.
Also, is it necessary or more beneficial to join a tour group vs. going it alone on our own time? Or is that typical? I am confused with all the mass of info. Please advise!
Tour companies charge a set fee whether you use their gear or not. If you are looking to save money, consider taking The Bus to get there. (You’ll find more info on that in the links below.)
If you decide you don ‘t want to buy your own snorkel gear, you can rent it at the bay.
One advantage of going out with a tour company is that they watch after your a little bit, but I don’t think it matters as much at Hanuama Bay.
You’ll find some good info in these links:
