I am graduating this year so my family is going to Hawaii. I get to pick what island. I did some research and i think i want to stay in Kaanapali, Maui. Where would you stay if you could choose? Is the snorkeling good in Maui? I like to snorkel. Thanks.
I THINK SNORKELING IS BEST AROUND THE SHERATON IN KAANAPALI. BUT IT ISALSO GOOD DOWN IN THE KIHEI AREA. BEST CHOICE IS KAANAPALI IF YOU LIKE DOING THE LITTLE SHOPS AND GREAT RESTAURANTS IN LAHAINA-IT IS CLOSE AND THEY SUPPLY TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM, I BELIEVE. I THINK MAUI IS THE BEST ISLAND FOR SNORKELING, BUT I AM NOT A "SNORKELER" MOST OF THE BOATS ARE MIDWAY BETWEEN LAHAINA AND KIHEI.
We’re going to Hawaii on our honeymoon. We want to go for hikes, learn to surf, go scuba diving and snorkelling and swim on beaches that are crystal clear. What would be the best island for us to visit?
Any resorts you can suggest?
I personally recommend Oahu for a number of reasons:
1) it has everything all on one island, hiking, surfing for beginners, scuba/snorkeling, great beaches to choose from and so much more. There is literally something for every taste and budget!
2) if you want a resort feeling there are several on Waikiki that will treat you like royalty and make your trip well worth it. I recommend the Hilton Hawaiian Village or the Outrigger Waikiki – they both have great locations, rooms, dining, beach access, pools and amazing concierge that will help you book any tour/trip you want and have other really good info for you to use!
3) You can spend as much or as little as you like on Oahu and still do it all! If you need budgeting help or tips on which tours to go on, companies to use please email me – or check out the websites below for more info!

We are planning a romantic getaway for end of July, and have no idea of how to narrow down the options. Basically, we’d like a beach that’s not too busy, turquoise waters, good snorkeling, and resort-like accommodations. Just wondering if some islands are better for some than others…
You can find beach+snorkel+resort on any island (except perhaps Molokai).
SHORT VERSION:
If money is no object, go to Lanai. Otherwise, I recommend Maui or Oahu. The Big Island would also work if you want to see Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
LONGER VERSION:
Now let me go through the pros/cons of each island for what you’re seeking.
LANAI:
If money is no object, the Manale Bay Resort on Lanai is my top pick for a private resort beach. The beach and good snorkeling are just steps away from the resort, and it is very private. Lanai is a smaller, drier island than Maui, so you won’t see waterfalls here. But the privacy and beauty of the beach is outstanding.
Here’s the Manale Bay Resort:

You can see a lot of photos and information about Lanai here:

OAHU:
Avoid Waikiki if you want "not too busy." However, Oahu might still be a good island to consider because it may end up being cheaper for you. If you’ve never been to Hawaii, Oahu is a great place to start. And although people complain about Waikiki, it is an interesting place…lots of shopping and great restaurants and night life.
Anyway, you don’t have to stay in Honolulu…Oahu has a lot of other things to see and miles of beaches away from Waikiki. Here is a great resort on the north shore of Oahu (far away from hectic Waikiki):

MAUI:
Maui is a beautiful romantic island, but it can sometimes feel humid in late July (not always, sometimes). This is the only place in Hawaii I have felt uncomfortably hot and humid. Still, along the coast this shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
Kaanapali Beach on the northwest side has some great resorts. Also, Kapalua is supposed to be nice. Both of these locations have excellent snorkeling nearby (in season).
The advantage of Maui is that you can see Mount Haleakala and the Road to Hana. Haleakala is a stunning extinct volcano with an amazing national park, and the Road to Hana is famous for its waterfalls and scenery.

BIG ISLAND:
The Big Island is amazing, but if you just want to rest on the beach it may not be the best choice. There is a great beach and resort on the west side north of Kona, but the snorkeling isn’t quite as good as that available from the beaches of Maui or Lanai. The main reason to go to the Big Island would be if you want to drive down and see the lava flowing in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Here is the Hapuna Beach Prince Resort (one of the best beaches in Hawaii):

ROMANTIC SUNSETS
One more thing…since you’re planning a romantic getaway, here is an article about some of the best places in the islands to watch a romantic sunset:

When is the best time of year to visit Hawaii as far as weather is concerned?
What the most beautiful island?
Where is the best place for snorkeling?
Thanks.
It depends on what your interests are. Hawaii has a lot to offer, from beautiful relaxing beaches to dangerous hiking adventures.
My husband and I visited Maui and the Big Island last summer and we are going to Kauai and Oahu this summer.
The Big Island was neat because it is part lava desert, part rain forest and part beautiful beaches. It is the largest of the islands and will take you 3-4 days to see the whole thing.
Maui is also very nice. There is more night life and commericalization, but only in parts. There are more things to do on Maui than on the Big Island.
I have heard that Oahu is L.A. on an island. Very populated and a lot of traffic. The north shore is supposed to be beautiful though
Kauai is the least populated and the most exotic of the islands. We are planning on doing a lot of adventuring on the island. Hiking, snorkeling, atv tours and a helicopter ride (I’ve heard that this is the best island for that).
We snorkeled on both the Big Island and Maui and both were very good. The clearest water I’ve ever seen!
Consider getting this series of books "The Ultimate Guide to… The Big Island, Maui, Kauai, Oahu"
http://www.wizardpub.com/
We read quite a few guide books and these are the best! They are dead on… right down to the mile markers!!
Happy Traveling and Aloha!
I want to go to hawaii but no idea where at there. I don’t want to see a ton of people around, but I want to be able to lay on a beach or maybe snorkel a little bit. I don’t want to stay in a hut but be able to be in a less populated, romantic yet simple area of hawaii. Anybody know something that fits all that?
Probably Kauai, but you would need to stay in a hotel anyway, or a condo. Very laid back and some pretty beaches.
There were 6 manta rays present for this event. The lights from the Sheraton attract the plankton that the mantas eat. The crew of the boat set up a light toward the bottom of Keauhou Bay, which attracted more plankton. It looks like the housing of my camera is dirty, but that is a combination of bubbles from a diver below me and plankton collecting on the glass. The mantas are huge and will come within an inch or so of snorkelers and will sometimes brush along them. That is an amazing experience, though of course it makes for a terrible video

I will be taking along my fifty-year old hubby and teen daughter, we all want to snorkel with sea turtles and really want an all inclusive resort(at least four stars) any suggestions would really be helpful!
Thanks
all the islands have something to offer…
kauai has so much natural beauty, without the hustle and bustle of waikiki in oahu
oahu is touristy, but it has a nightlife and great attractions
maui is between oahu and kauai, it’s touristy but is beautiful, with many charming little towns and the famed "Road to Hana"
the Big Island is huge and seems nearly deserted, with lava rocks and ancient petroglyphs, and Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea
if u go to oahu, my recommended hotels are the Halekulani, Ihilani at Ko Olina or Outrigger Reef on the Beach.
the Hakelulani is a beautiful hotel, where my parents got married actually
, and they have the award-winning restaurant "House Without a Key" and wonderful suites.
Ihilani has five beautiful lagoons, and a neat pool with sharks, stingrays, fish
the Outrigger chains are wonderful, with a friendly staff and great rooms. Outrigger Reef on the Beach is in waikiki and right on the beach, with two beachside restaurants
you can snorkel in hanauma bay, which is packed full of colorful fish
you can also snorkel and tidepool-fish in "Shark’s Cove", in Pupukea Beach Park.
on the north shore, be sure to visit Laniakea Beach, where you can see wild sea turtles resting on the sand.
if u go to oahu, be sure to also climb Diamond Head (amazing views!), visit the beach, eat a shave ice and take a drive around the historic North Shore
