I want to live in Hawaii someday. What are some possible careers that would allow me to live there? So far, I only know of marine biology, something in tourism, or translating. Please help! Thanks. :)

Nursing has a pretty good track record of salaries being competative with most mainland cities. With the exception of manufacturing, & research & development, we have most of the same needs/opportunities as most places. We need doctors, nurses, teachers. lawyers, realtors, plumbers, electricians, retail, hospitality, etc. The issues are cost of living vs salary, adjusting to the local lifestyle, and the potential difficulty of breaking into any particular profession here.

Good luck in your career path

Hey I’m making plans to go to Hawaii this summer and want to know which island and/or Surf camps over there has the hottest male instructors? Thanks :)

Here you go. Aaron Powell, a North Shore surf instructor who is also a ranked surfer and does some modeling. He gives his summer lessons in town. Lots or writ-ups in magazines. His email address is

If Aaron isn’t available, try Al Mahoe, he gives his lessons at Alamona

If not, any cheaper areas that are still clean and nice?

ocean front is never cheap anywhere in the USA, but if you can find a clean beach in hawaii its even more of a premium!

I have slipped on lava in hawaii before, so I don’t want some cheapo brand, I want a pair that will grip surfaces really well.

Teva makes amazing water shoes with super grips! Their sandlas and shoes are made specifically for water sports like kayaking, canoeing, snorkeling, etc. Check ‘em out!

We’re traveling to Hawaii in April with our baby girl who will be 14 months. We’re going to all the islands and I don’t know what activities we’ll really be able to do while there. We live in Miami so the beach isn’t the main attraction for us. I purchased a baby carrier/backpack and an all terrain stroller to get around. Is there any hiking to do with a tough stroller? Carrying the baby for a month on our backs will not be easy. Any suggestions?

There are some easy hikes on Oahu that might be doable with a heavy duty stroller, boomer gal has one idea. Thereis also Koko Head (by Hawaii Kai) and Makiki Valley (which is wide enough as it is used every day heavily). Also Diamond Head is doable (not the rougher areas). There is a Children’s Discovery Center nearer to downtown that would be fun and it features Hawaiana. There is also the Bishop Museum which might be interesting for a child.

My husband and I are going to go to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort and Spa for a week in Honolulu and were wondering if anyone had any suggestions of restaurants, snorkeling places, ropes courses, fun beaches, etc for us to do without going broke. Any suggestions? Thank you! :)

There’s actually four sections of Oahu (going by shores):
-North Shore
-South Shore
-East Shore
-West Shore

(This has nothing to do with my answer, I just wanted to correct the third poster).

Anywhoo, you can buy an entertainment book, which is FILLED with coupons for everything you can imagine. Yes, you gotta pay for it but it’s worth it.

After buying that, you can do whatever you want without going broke. I highly suggest you and your husband head out to Ku’aloa Ranch to horseback ride, go ATV’ing, kyaking, etc. It’s a lot of fun.

It will take me a little bit to save up but I’m willing to do it. I don’t know anything about the islands and would like something that would help me to see a couple different ones and enjoy all the things Hawaii has to offer. Any advice? Thanks!

i’ve been to hawaii before and its VERY beautiful. It rains a bit but when its sunny out you should really go to the beach or go shopping =p just be careful, i got burned pretty badly on the back cuz i forgot to put lotion on my back when i went to the beach lol

The bombing made the Hawaiian islands a war zone, and there was the fear that the Japanese might invade Hawaii. No tourism functioned until many islands had been taken from the Japanese in 1943 and 1944. By 1945 the islands were once more a site for tourism. Today the site of the sunken battleship the USS Arizona is a memorial to the soldiers and sailors that died on that day of December 7, 1941, in Pearl Harbor, and is one of the biggest memorials in any of the 50 states. Recently some 40 million dollars has been set aside for renovation and upgrading of the site.

IDK, but I have a friend named Kona. :)
