Hey, I am considering moving to Honolulu, Hawaii in the near future..(moving from London), so pursue my career in the Travel and Tourism industry.
Is Honolulu, and the Hawaiian islands in general, an expensive place to live? and are flights from the mainland USA to the islands very expensive?
Thank you in advance!
Another point, is it expensive to travel from one island to another?
Thanks again
yes it is. naturally because it costs so much mroe money to ship everything out there… milk, food, gas etc
but definately worth it! watch for local surfers, dont act like the shit haha
take it easy man
I leave for Kona Hawaii tomorrow for 9 days. What are cheap fun things to do there?
Everything i find is at least 80 – 100 dollars a person.
Swim or lay on the beach……..it’s free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure it wasn’t Hawaii 5-0?

We’re going on a second honeymoon (without the kids) and the wife is determined to stay a week on Waikiki beach in Honolulu, HI for over a week. So for all you seasoned travelers, can you please share some saving tips on what hotel would is offering the best couple only deal? or does anyone know of a great web only deal….anything to save some more pennies? Thanks for all your help!
Here is a site to purchase a Hawai’i Saver Gold Card as well as a big list of things to do and how much you will save on each activity with the card….we used it on Oahu and Maui last July and August and I would say I saved over a 3 week period….&300.00-$500.00 with it…Aloha A Hui Ho…

My boyfriend and I plan to go to Hawaii during mid-October for a 4-days trip. I’ve done a lot of researches yet I can’t decide which island I should go to. We are looking for a somewhat romantic trip that doesn’t include much sightseeing. We prefer being active at outdoor activities such as diving, snorkeling, laying/swimming near the beach, sailing… etc. So far I’ve come down to Big Island, Maui, and Oahu. Can you please give me some advice on which island I should pick and recommend me some activies that I definitely cannot miss? Also, if possible, let me know which hotel comes with a beach that we can actually swim. I gotta have this trip plan out as soon as possible, please help~~!!
That’s a huge question, and would require a huge answer. And depends on a lot of things like your interests and budget.
That said, here’s what our family and friends do before they come to visit. We built a web page with the best links and things to do in Hawaii, rated and reviewed. That way they could look BEFORE they got here and see what they want to do. Our 4-star rated items may be a good place to start for those "don’t miss" things.
Our family’s going to Kauai next…that island’s famous for not having much nightlife and the like, but is gorgeous and romantic. Of course there’s beach access and water activities like you mentioned. If you go to Maui, our web page has a link to a page that shows aerial pictures of the island’s resorts, so you can see them before you go. If you go to Oahu, and money’s no problem…since you want to get off the beaten path…consider Ko Olina resort. Four wonderful lagoons, but close enough to Honolulu that you can get there and back for dinner and other activities. Also look at Turtle Bay on the North Shore. Definitely remote, and while it does have nice beaches of it’s own, it’s also close to the other North Shore beaches.
The page is at http://home.hawaii.rr.com/gonebananas. Could go into a longer answer here, but with all the work we put into that page, well, you’ll see…it will answer your questions.

I’m planning on going to Hawaii for my Honeymoon in October. I already have free flights to and from Hawaii. Where are good sites/travel agency where I can book a package deal for hotel/condo, rental car and one island hop along with possible tourist attractions while I’m there. I want to stay in Maui for 4 days and Waikiki for 2 days.
This site lists great cheap travel sites: http://www.travelbargainsites.com
I am booking a suprise Hawaii trip for my husband for our annivresary. I know nothing about Hawaii, but do know that Maui and Oahu are the two places to go, I guess. We are going to want to snorkel, whale watch, ect… Plus we love nature, so we want to see lots of beautiful scenery. My question, as far a weather, do I go in late December or early January…or late January. I understand there is a rainy season there and I would like to avoid that.
December or January are both theoretically in the rainy season (some are more rainy than others), but that doesn’t necessarily mean vacation plans in any month are likely to be at all affected by rain. It basically means that there’s a small possibility a kona storm could bring moist air up from the tropics and dump rain all over the island for a few days. Otherwise, there is usually a rainy side of the island (Hana, Kaneohe) and a dry side (Kihei, Honolulu).
Last year was a wet December on Maui. There were flash floods Upcountry, and it snowed on top of Haleakala. Kihei got more than 8 inches of rain that month, but in an average December, Kihei only gets about 2.4 inches of rain. On the other hand, January was very dry for Kihei. The January average is 4.1", but this January, Kihei got just over one-tenth of an inch the whole month.
What I wanted you to see is that a lot of rain for Kihei is really not that much rain, and that there’s no predicting which month is actually going to be more rainy.
Both months are great for whale watching. Humpback whales prefer to hang out in the shallow waters among the islands of Maui County (Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Kahoolawe).
I’m going on holiday to Hawaii with my husband and 4 year old son, and I want some advice on things to do which we would all enjoy. I’ve got some ideas from the tourism website, but I’d like some more please. I’m looking for a good mix of adult friendly, child friendly and scenery, to get as much as possible out of the trip. We’ll be based in Oahu. My husband and I would love to go snorkeling, would our son be able to be involved in that, or is he too young?
This is a great time to visit the Aloha State. Do rent a small car to get around to free activities. After the initial obligatory Waikiki beach, which is a nice swim, and snorkel for you and the son, go out to Hanauma Bay to the East. It is a fish sanctuary, and full of beautiful fish that will eat from your hands–bread tightly smashed in to a ball, or frozen peas from a local store. There is a slight charge to this one beach, but it is worth it.
Around the north shore, stop at Hukilau Beach, just down the road from the Polynesian Cultural Center (a rather pricey but enjoyable all day tourist attraction), ask the locals for directions. A beautiful beach, bring your own cooler with lunch. While down this way, Turtle Bay Hotel has a wonderful little beach open to visitors, friendly for four year olds.
While Luaus are expensive, in the $80 range, it is what Hawaii is in many minds. Save on not going on expensive tour buses. Pearl Harbor Tour is FREE, instead of paying $35 or more for a bus tour, take your car, and hint, go in the afternoon 2 pm or so.
Another wonderful beach is Koolina Beach, on the South West end. Parking is limited, so go early, but skip the West end, people can be crazy there and don’t understand tourism is what fuels many of our jobs in Hawaii. Just driving around the island, we have many beautiful and free beaches. Also Pineapple Plantation, Manoa Falls–short hike to falls. Shop at Ala Moana Shopping Center. Take a dinner cruise, paddle a canoe at Waikiki beach, surf board lesson–or just rent a board, same beach.
For my Senior trip, I plan on going to either Hilo, Hawaii or Honolulu. What are some fun things to do, besides just the beach?
For Honolulu and depending on your circumstances on knowing that you don’t want the beach. I would point you to Chinatown that offers an exciting time for shopping and some good restaurants. Hiking trails at Diamond Head, Mokapuu Lighthouse, Lanikai Pillbox, or Kaena Point trails offers some beautiful sights. Iolani Palace, the Missionary Houses, USS Arizona memorial, USS Missouri, and the Pacific Aviation Museum offers some of our island history. Ala Moana shopping mall and Ward Center offers some more shopping. The Dole plantation and the North Shore, Haleiwa offers even some more shopping in some unique shops.
There is still a lot to do without hitting the beach while you are here on Oahu. We hope you enjoy yourself.
Just another local….

I have DID and it is is bad. feeling really out of control and my alters want to come out really bad. I have 5-6 alters. Two are evil. one wants me to get hurt and die and the other wants to hurt and rampage. I am on meds but feel like i am not getting better. I would like to go to the hospital but they take for over night and release me or they say I can’t come in because I have sleep apnea and no medical devices are allowed in the ward. The nurse tell the DR I am too complicated for them. I live on Hawaii and if I want to go to another island they say no, because my local needs to treat me. It is called Area of Care. I want to go to Honolulu for help but nobody will send me or help me. my Psychiatrist is a quack and talks down to me and ridicules me. I can;t find any other Dr that take medicare or medicaid. I need help. The local free clinic is only taking very very sever mental illness because of budget cutbacks and they say I don;t qualify. help me please.
I have been to psychiatry hospitals too many times. They don’t offer a miracle that we don’t know. They only give your medicines. So you can take your medicines out of hospital. So there is no difference.
You can find another psychiatrist if you don’t like the current one and ask for trying another medicine so if you think the ones you are taking are not enough or not working.
