no more,,,the industry of hawaiian tourism is at an all time low….get out your hat and start dancing for your money
I am going on vacation and want to send a package back to a Japanese exchange student as a gift. I arrive to Hawaii late Monday night(7/27) and leave late at night on 8/10(she leaves back to Japan this same day).
How long will it take a package to get there NOT by priority mail.
How long with priority?
Please respond quickly with answers as accurate as possible.
Thanks for your time.
Regular Mail…4-6 days.
I sent a 4 lb. package from Hanalei, Kauai to Central California last Tuesday, regular mail, it was received yesterday (Saturday) it took 5 days.
i’m going to Hawaii to visit some family in January (they are old, they don’t surf) for 2 weeks. I have always wanted to learn to surf, but before I’ve always been scared. I am a really good swimmer (former high school swim team), and i’m still in pretty good shape. Is it possible to learn to surf in 2 weeks. I’ll be on the Big Island, where do I go, how do i find an instructor? Keep in mind I’m not made of money.
Of course you can!
First I would recommend getting into shape because surfing uses very specific muscles you may not be using now.
You need to do push-ups and bench presses to build your chest muscles, (pecs), so you can push yourself up to stand.
Next you need to do pull-ups or lat pull-downs to work the muscles along your sides, (lats), that you will use to paddle.
A little running will build your cardio and legs muscles.
Then I would take a couple of lessons to get the basics down.
I always recommend that beginners take lessons and use a longboard, (at least 9′ long), as these are the easiest to catch waves with and balance on to stand up.
And finally this site has a great article called ‘Learn How to Surf in One Day’ that I think is terrific:

And of course, don’t forget to protect your skin from getting sunburned AND getting a stomach rash when you lay on the board – use a rash guard shirt: http://www.Buy-Rash-Guards.com
Good luck and have fun!! ![]()
A friend and I are about to graduate college and plan on taking a well deserved vacation to Hawaii. Relax on the beach, surf, but primarily, be away from our old lives. Meet new people and have new experiences. We would like to stay in Hawaii for about three months. Would need an apartment. Preferably two bedrooms. Doesn’t have to be fancy, just normal. Near the beach. Obviously not on it, that would be a fortune. But with in walking distant. Don’t know anything about Hawaii, or where’s the best place to live. Hoping we can get some tips on that. Keep in mind we are running on a tight budget. With the hope of spending somewhere between 800 to 900 dollars on rent. Don’t know the prices of rent in Hawaii, but if its anything like the other Beach’s Ive lived on, than that price would be reasonable. Did check on line, but nothing for what I’m looking for came up. Just mostly condos and REALLY fancy apartments. If anyone has any information on this matter if would be great fully appreciated
for maui check the Maui News classified section

good luck finding one for $900.00, but you never know….
My kids are 8 and 12, excellent swimmers but no snorkeling experience. Mom is experienced in snorkeling and underwater diving.
well if you have kids I’d Oahu because they have a place called, Hanauma Bay which is a place where there are not a lot of waves and they have a part of it which locals call the key hole, this is where you can practice snorkeling and if your comfortable the reef is all around you. The reason why we call it a key hole is because on your way down you can see the whole reef and in one part there is a huge part where it’s all sand and it looks like a key hole. So your kids will be able to practice, they have a shuttle down and they have a hut where you can rent everything you need for snorkeling, they even have floater’s that you strap to your kids and they can float while snorkeling. It’s also a very good picnic place.
Here’s the web site for Hanauma bay:

kaui’i is real secluded and real pretty
try poi’pu beach in kaui’i it’s real nice there
as for activities, i dunno. i smoked alot of weed when i was there. that was a fun activity.
here’s a link to a good resort…
The rainest month is Feb., & part of March. The most whales are seen on Maui. I lived there 16 yrs. The most whales are there during March, because they all come by then, also the calves are being born by then also, so the highest population is in March. Don’t let the rain scare you, usually March is alright but last year we had 40 days & 40 nights of rain in March. I think I met dis guy named Moses one day while I was hiking up in the mountains. After Easter hotel & airfares get cheaper but less whales, or no whales.
We want to be able to have a good snorkeling area within walking distance of the hotel. Not have to load up in the car, take a drive and lug everything to the beach, back to the car, back to the hotel. We just want to enjoy the beach right from the hotel and some great snorkeling as well. Any one know? Island doesn’t matter, if it has the beach and snorkeling outside the hotel…..
I don’t particulary want to go to Oahu but when I wanted to put my question in the right category, it was the only option for Hawaii.
West Maui, from Honokowai to Napili. This is a five mile+ shoreline w/100’s of condos right on the beach w/ great snorkeling. Some condos don’t have a beach in front of them, there are rocks & some tidepools, but the snorkeling is still great. We used to catch lunch & dinner out there.Napili Bay is the best adjacent to,(also Kahana Bay.) Safe for kids also. Don’t rent your equipment from the hotel, go to Snorkel Bob’s, right in Napili. www.napilikaibeachclub.com is where I would stay. I lived on Maui right there in Kahana & Honokowai for 16 yrs. www.gohawaii.com (the Hawaii Visitors and Conventions Bureaus website) Kaanapali is good also, that’s where all the hotels are, Hyatt, Marriott, Westin, Kaanapali Beach Hotel, Sharaton, & The Royal Lahaina Hotel. An upscale condo between the Marriott & the Westin, Kaanapali Alii, I’ve stayed there before, full kitchens, Beautiful rooms! Highly reccommended. All these places are RIGHT on the ocean. I just went on the Napili Kai site, not the one in Lahaina, Make sure it’s the one in Napili Bay. Maui is without a doubt the best island to vacation. Aloha!
im thinking about going to italy paris or hawaii.what fun things can i do in hawaii?
Aloha – you can do everything in Hawaii!! On Oahu especially!
learn to surf
snorkeling with sea turtles & tons of fish
take a whale watching cruise (winter months)
learn how to eat poi at a luau (learn how to hula too)
Visit Pearl Harbor – the Dole Plantation – Valley of Temples
View the world’s best surfing on the North Shore
Hike Diamond Head Crater – hike to one of many beautiful waterfalls
buy fresh pineapples to ship home – or a great new pareo
hang out on Waikiki Beach – maybe take a catamaran tour or ride on an outrigger canoe
There is nightlife and dining for every taste! Plate Lunch and shave ice are especially good!
If you want more suggestions just let me know! Hawaii has it all!
I haven’t been there for over 30 years, but I can’t forget it. (Then I saw Oahu and Hawaii, the big island). Now we are thinking of retiring there. Seeking quiet, beauty, low-key lifestyle, but also good medical services and at least one upscale mall. Any ideas? Also, I’ve heard complaints about the weather (too hot and humid) from people who have lived there. What’s up with that? I currently live in San Diego. If anything, I wouldn’t mind a bit cooler.
I have never been to Kauai, but hear it’s beautiful and not crowded like Maui and Oahu.
I was last on the Big Island about 7 years ago, and it was absolutely gorgeous! My preference is the lava rocks and the rolling hills over the touristy white sandy beaches, anyway.
The Big Island had some shopping, even a Costco in Kona, but I have no idea about medical facilities. The weather was fine both times I’ve visited (May and October). It rained a little, but it’s supposed to be tropical.
Good luck!
