main issues that hawaii is going through?
any controversies?
drugs? tourism? pedestrian safety?
Drug trafficing mostly Meth AKA ICE.
I am going to be moving to Waikoloa in March. I am hoping to work in the medical field in an office setting or hospital. I heard that it is difficult to find a job there. Also that the salaries are low. Does anyone know if this is true.
You will have no trouble finding a job, but you will have trouble finding affordable housing–it is a real crisis right now on the Kona coast. Salaries are lower than on the mainland for the most part. Many locals work two jobs to make ends meet. Not to dissuade you, but it’s a hard place to move to on a lower-end salary.
I’m going to stay in Hawaii just bymyself for vacation .
How much can I trust the safety box of front desk?
How much can I trust the safety box in the room?
How do you go to beach without bring your some money.
Where do you leave your money when you go to swin?
I’m going to vacation just bymyself do you have any good idea for safety to keep money safe when I go to beach?
but,I’m alone.
you should be fine, just dont look like a target
yes, trust the box at the desk and in the room, just dont leave the key laying around.
there’s always the chance that ur stuff will get taxed from the beach, but i always leave my stuff either where im sitting or in the car.
i like the aqua aloha surf, the market is right there, kitchenette, and tsunamis is right there too!! Try to upgrade to a room with a couch if you can afford it, it’s worth it! Make some new friends, party, and have fun
next to good surf breaks. and they have to be 4 year.
the okawaha college is about 5 minutes from the beach and the kiwahu college is right on the beach as well.
We are going to Oahu and Maui for 10 days. We will bring our credit cards and such but how much cash would you suggest? We want to do snorkeling (I assume they only take cash), market shopping and maybe some other activities along the way. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Almost all of the dive shops take credit cards. Use the cards whenever possible and save the cash to pay the bill when you get back. It’s good for consumer protection and insurance. Take $500 in cash, there are ATM’s. Bring a good mixture of denominations for tipping, small purchases, etc. Most hotels have safes so that you can leave most of the cash in the room and only bring what you may want for the day.
My friends and I are going to Oahu. We are all set with accomodations, we rented a condo and split the cost. I’m just wondering how much to bring for food costs. Is dining out in Hawaii more expensive? What is the sales tax in Hawaii right now? We also want surfing lessons, what is a reasonable price? And if anyone knows of any fun attractions and activities, please let me know. Thanks!
Well if your going to Hawai’i on vacation you shouldn’t be thinking about saving money because it’s not possible. The cost of living here is ridiculous enough, but as a haole(tourist) it’s even worst. I am just guessing that your staying in Waikiki, so a meal at Mcdonalds there is $7.80 compared to $4.50 in the states. Surf lessons are all along the Waikiki beach line at the surf stand that you can’t miss. The cost is $50 for a 1 1/2 hour lesson. Reason I know this is my husband use to work on the beach at the surf stands. That’s as reasonable as it gets. I know it probably hard to deal with but Hawai’i is not a cheap place to visit or live. There are a lot of things to do in Hawai’i! Hiking up Diamond Head, Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, and around the Island drives when the sun sets. The only way to enjoy yourself to the fullest is not worry about the spending. Good luck to you and much Aloha.
We are planning a return trip to hawaii next year to see things like the whale migration. We are looking for any information on what type or brand of binoculars would be great for the trip. We are planning on staying in a home on the north shore near the pipeline and it is said you can sit on your deck and watch them. We are mostly wanting to improve our looking. The price range we are looking at would be $150.00 or less. Any advice anyone has would be great.
I do have my eye on a nikon action 12×50 binocular. The thing I like about this one is the fact about star gazing with them and I already have a tripod.
I think you can get a decent pair for about that. Your decision will be whether to get a pair of 8×40s or a pair of 10×40s. Some people have a little difficulty holding 10×40s steady enough. Hand shake tends to be more obvious with the 10×40s. They will however give you a slightly closer look, but not much.
Here is a link to a pair or two that will meet your needs. They are both waterproof since you will be on a whale watching boat.
At $159.99 but no shipping or sales tax. A good pair. The 10×42 are are $10 more.

These are not quite as good in the field of view department but they are not bad and only $62.00 a pair. One for you and one for your wife too. The 10×42s are $30 a pair more.

I will be taking along my fifty-year old hubby and teen daughter, we all want to snorkel with sea turtles and really want an all inclusive resort(at least four stars) any suggestions would really be helpful!
Thanks
all the islands have something to offer…
kauai has so much natural beauty, without the hustle and bustle of waikiki in oahu
oahu is touristy, but it has a nightlife and great attractions
maui is between oahu and kauai, it’s touristy but is beautiful, with many charming little towns and the famed "Road to Hana"
the Big Island is huge and seems nearly deserted, with lava rocks and ancient petroglyphs, and Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea
if u go to oahu, my recommended hotels are the Halekulani, Ihilani at Ko Olina or Outrigger Reef on the Beach.
the Hakelulani is a beautiful hotel, where my parents got married actually
, and they have the award-winning restaurant "House Without a Key" and wonderful suites.
Ihilani has five beautiful lagoons, and a neat pool with sharks, stingrays, fish
the Outrigger chains are wonderful, with a friendly staff and great rooms. Outrigger Reef on the Beach is in waikiki and right on the beach, with two beachside restaurants
you can snorkel in hanauma bay, which is packed full of colorful fish
you can also snorkel and tidepool-fish in "Shark’s Cove", in Pupukea Beach Park.
on the north shore, be sure to visit Laniakea Beach, where you can see wild sea turtles resting on the sand.
if u go to oahu, be sure to also climb Diamond Head (amazing views!), visit the beach, eat a shave ice and take a drive around the historic North Shore
What are some things that’s bad or negative about Hawaii?
ex. bad weather or something?
Way too expensive to live and can’t find a job.
My senior friends are in deep trouble because there is no jobs available for them that they can survive on their own on.
Sometimes my mom thinks its not worth it living in Hawaii because there are always more taxes being made and they want to build buildings to "better hawaii" and it sucks money out of the peoples wallets.
Another thing is its not the same. Barely people know the meaning of aloha.
I work at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park as a lifeguard and I enjoy work that involves saving people and medical emergencies. I applied to go into Honolulu Fire Department but I wanted to explore Pararescue with the US Air Force. If I go HFD, I can stay in the islands, work 10 days out of the month, go to college and have a steady career. If I join the Air Force, I can see the world, gain valuable career experience, and save many lives. I’m in very good physical shape and I’m unsure of what to do. And since Hawaii doesn’t have a Pararescue reserve here, I can’t do both. Any advice?
I value education a lot more than anything else. Choose the path that holds your education as a priority and the one that you will be satisfied doing. Also think of the outcome. If you think that the outcome of being in the US Air Force is greater than the outcome of employment in the Fire Department then your choice is clear.
